Switching Up Yobana Studios

I have been a graphic designer for a while now. My main focus has been in the non-profit sector. Anyone that has worked in the non-profit world, knows that it is a selfless and often tiring career choice. You often deal with heartbreaking subjects, work extra hours wearing a multitude of hats, and for little pay. It was very difficult for me to come home and work for clients that I didn’t see eye to eye with. I also had to be on tight deadlines that were difficult to honor sometimes… I didn’t think it was fair to my clients. I had to take a step back and think about what I wanted my time away from my day job to be. I had to think of me.

It was then when I decided to bring back the love I had for creating. I needed to create because I wanted to, not because I had to. I wanted to have fun! This Is when I decided to PIVOT (I told you I was a Friends fan) Yobana Studios. I put a stop to client work and commissions and I am now illustrating and crafting what I enjoy. I have always wanted to have a tiendita (little store) and now I do. I plan to sell stickers, prints, and anything that might come to mind in the future. I even plan to attend craft shows with other artists and makers in my community.

I believe everyone should do what they love… I mean, life is just way too short not too. I would love to empower other maker moms out there to start creating and start loving what they do. I want them to start thinking a little selfishly sometimes… we deserve to. I hope you join me on this journey of discovery and feel free to share what you are doing.
